The NATO or G10 strap (named after the G1098 or G10 form that needed to be completed by soldiers) was developed by the British Ministry of Defence in 1973 to provide soldiers with a sturdy watch strap to house their watch during battle.

Following its release, the NATO watch strap was adapted to represent different British military regiments.
